Ball Position

Take a practice swing before every shot and actually hit the ground.

Let the practice divot impact point* tell you where to stand.  Front to back and side to side.

Things change.  Club length, lie (uphill, downhill, side-hill).  So remember,

a practice swing before every shot!

*Our thanks to visitor Jim McDowell who points out:

According to the Rules of Golf on the USGA website - Section 1 - Etiquette

Damage Through Practice Swings
In taking practice swings, players should avoid causing damage to the course, particularly the tees, by removing divots.

I think you should clarify this on your website so that courses do not suffer.
